Your best self isn’t found in the grand gestures or the ‘go big or go home’ mentality. Instead, it’s created in the small, purposeful actions you take every single day.

YOU are your greatest asset—so why wouldn’t you give yourself the love, energy, and attention you deserve, starting with your morning routine?

This isn’t just about setting yourself up for the day. It’s about setting yourself up for success in life—emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Here’s my morning routine that keeps me focused, energised, and performing at my absolute best. Give it a try, tweak it to suit your rhythms, and build some momentum this year towards your best self.

1. Check in With Yourself

Before you rush into the day, pause. Take a quiet moment to feel where you’re at emotionally. Are you carrying tension? Are you excited? Or perhaps there’s just a calm stillness?

No judgement here—just acknowledge how you feel. This quick emotional check-in lays the foundation for the day. Once you’ve tapped into your current state, set your intention for the hours ahead. Are you aiming to stay present and grounded? Or are you prioritising courage, creativity, or connection? Whatever it is, own it.

2. Start With Box Breathing

Our days often kick off on adrenaline—a quick glance at the phone, an overloaded email inbox, or the lure of the to-do list. Stop. Instead of getting swept up in this mental chaos, take control with box breathing. It’s simple:

  • Inhale for 4 counts.
  • Hold for 4 counts.
  • Exhale for 4 counts.
  • Hold for 4 counts.

Repeat this process for a minute or two. Box breathing slows your heart rate, calms your mind, and drops you into the present moment. It’s a small act of self-care with a BIG impact.

3. I AM Mantra

What you say to yourself matters. Your inner dialogue isn’t just chatter—it’s shaping your reality. Kickstart your mental game with an “I AM” mantra. Choose one that resonates with where you’re at or where you want to go, such as:

  • “I am grounded.”
  • “I am unstoppable.”
  • “I am focused and prepared.”

Speak it aloud. Think it. Write it down if it feels right. Whatever you do, say it like you mean it—because you DO.

4. Make Your Bed

This might seem like a trivial task, but trust me, it’s powerful. Making your bed is a small act of discipline that starts your day with a win. It’s about setting the tone—you’re organised, intentional, and ready to tackle the day. Plus, who doesn’t want to come home to a tidy sanctuary at the end of the day?

5. Brush Your Teeth With Your Non-Dominant Hand

Yes, you read that right! Switch it up and brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand. It forces you to be present and wakes up your brain, reminding you that you’re capable of mastering anything.

6. Hydrate

Water is your best friend. Drink up. Grab a glass of water first thing and keep a bottle with you throughout the day. Overnight, your body loses hydration, and replenishing it helps wake up your system, kickstart your metabolism, and refresh your mind. Simple but effective.

7. Journaling

Before you get bombarded with external noise, spend 5 minutes with yourself. Jot down your thoughts, your goals, or even just three things you’re grateful for. Journaling clears your mental space and helps you reflect on what matters most. It’s all about getting clear on what you want today to look like.

Not sure where to start? Ask yourself:

  • What is one thing I want to accomplish today?
  • What am I most excited about right now?

This practice doesn’t just help organise your day—it helps you stay aligned with your values and goals.

8. Move Your Body

Your body is meant to move, and morning movement primes your energy for the day ahead.

Whether it’s a quick stretch, a surf, a yoga flow, or a sweat session, get your body moving. This fuels your energy, breaks physical stagnation, and prepares you to perform at your best.

The best type of movement? The one that feels good to you.

Success Grows From Intention

By following this routine, you’re not just taking care of your mind and body—you’re nurturing a champion mindset. It’s these small, consistent actions that create big changes over time. Remember, your morning shouldn’t be about rushing or reacting to the world around you. It should be about YOU.

You’ve got this!!
